As at June 20, 2008, under the authority vested in the Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs in the State of California by Chapters 67 and 635 of the Statutes of 2007, the Director hereby enters [entered] into an agreement [pursuant to a prior voluntary agreement dated February 29, 2008] with the below-named educational institution.

The above-named private postsecondary educational institution shall agree [agreed] to comply with all of the following: state statutes, rules, and regulations pertaining to private postsecondary institutions or pertaining to non-WASC regionally accredited institutions as defined in Section 94740.5 of the Education Code, as it existed on June 30, 2007, in effect as of the close of business on June 30, 2007, for the purpose of ensuring continued student protection after Chapter 7 (commencing with Section 94700) of Part 59 of Division 10 of Title 3 of the Education Code became inoperative. This agreement shall apply [applies] retroactively to July 1, 2007.

Academy of Intellectual Property Law offers post-graduate degree and diploma programs in several fields of intellectual property law. Furthermore, the Academy of Intellectual Property Law supports legal research, conferences and endowed lectures on intellectual property law, worldwide. Research emphasis is on emerging legal issues derived from new technologies, proprietary business methods, e-commerce, and the Internet.

ADMISSIONS

Post-graduate students of any age, and from any country, preparing for careers in intellectual property law are admitted into the degree and diploma programs. Travel grants and merit scholarships are available for overseas students.

The Academy of Intellectual Property Law is exempt from Article 7 (commencing with Section 94850) the "Maxine Waters Student Protection Act" of the California Education Code because it complies with Section 94790(a) insofar as the masters degrees are conferred either upon the completion of the course of study of two or more academic years that are scheduled to be completed in no less than 17 months, or are conferred on students who have completed a graduate course of study of one or more years at a college or university, and complies with Section 94790(d) insofar as educational service, as defined by subdivision (a) of Section 94734 of the California Education Code, is offered exclusively to assist students, who have obtained, or are in the process of obtaining, degrees after completing an undergraduate or graduate course of study at a college or university, to prepare for an examination for licensure in a recognized profession, such as medicine, dentistry, accounting or law, and complies with Section 94785(a) insofar as the institution enrolls 100 or fewer students and no part of the charges for any educational service offered by the institution is paid from proceeds of a loan or grant subject to a governmental student financial aid program.

Specifically, the Academy of Intellectual Property Law offers educational services in relation to a graduate program leading to the degree "M.Phil.(Genève) in European Trademark Law" and to short term diploma programs intended as examination preparation for the following professional licenses: "U.S. PATENT ATTORNEY," "U.S. PATENT AGENT," "EUROPEAN PATENT ATTORNEY," "IRISH TRADEMARK AGENT," and "EUROPEAN TRADEMARK ATTORNEY."

Dipl.(Patents) in European Patent Law

The Diploma in European Patent Law is preparation for the "European Patent Attorney" licensing examination, called the European Qualifying Examination (EQE), administered by the European Patent Office (EPO) pursuant to the European Patent Convention (EPC).

Dipl.(Trademarks) in Irish Trademark Law

The Diploma in Irish Trademark Law is preparation for the "Irish Trademark Agent" licensing examination for those requesting to be listed in the Register of Trade Mark Agents in Ireland further to the provisions of Statutory Instruments No. 622 of 2007.

Dipl.(Trademarks) in European Trademark Law

The Diploma in European Trademark Law is preparation for entry on the list of "European Trademark Attorneys" maintained by the Office of Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) under Article 89 of the COUNCIL REGULATION (EC) No 40/94 of 20 December 1993 on the Community Trade Mark (CTMR).

Dipl.(Patents) in U.S. Patent Law

The Diploma in U.S. Patent Law is preparation for the "U.S. Patent Agent" and "U.S. Patent Attorney" Licensing Examination Administered by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

DEGREE CONFERRED

M.Phil.(Genève) in European Trademark Law

The degree designation, M.Phil.(Genève), is a Swiss Certification Mark. The degree is conferred in Geneva, Switzerland upon graduates of the Academy of Intellectual Property Law on completion of a 1-year post-graduate program of study in the field of intellectual property law.
